Ultimately, Life is what you make of it. If you find yourself in a job that you hate or that is not fulfilling you in the way that you anticipated then perhaps it is time to change direction and do something different, something that you know you will get a lot out of. In these economic times of uncertainty it is not advised to just quit your job and hope for the best. We all need security and rash decisions could become regrettable decisions. You can however do your research and investigate whether changing careers is really right for you. Will you get more out of life for example?

There are three key elements that you must have in place before you can change your career for the better. If you are not afraid to do a lot of groundwork and research then you will surely be able to decide whether this is a good move before jumping in with both eyes shut. You must think about your dream career carefully and weigh up the pros and cons. What inspires you? What would you love to get up in the morning to do? What are your passions and hobbies in life? You can definitely turn these passions into careers with the right help and information to guide you. The second thing that you will require is a professionally written CV and Cover Letter. Your CV and Cover Letter is the only thing that will gain you an interview, so it must be as perfect as it can be. The final thing that you need to be able to do is be prepared to deliver an outstanding interview that will blow the competition away and make an employer want to hire you immediately. There is a lot of competition for each job, and even though your CV might be perfect and paint you in a positive light, the way that you perform at interview will ultimately secure you that job. Be prepared for tough interview questions by doing your research and writing responses to them beforehand. Develop a positive mental attitude for this new change in your life. You may be unhappy now but you are taking steps to improve your lot and you should be proud of yourself for being brave enough to break the cycle. Be prepared to put past mistakes behind you and look forwards. You may regret entering into the profession that you have, but it has ultimately led you back to a path that you want to follow now, so see it as a positive thing.

Think about the course of your life and ask yourself these questions:

* What have you achieved thus far? Have you achieved all of the personal, educational and professional targets that you wanted to?

* What exactly is it that you want to gain from you professional and personal life in the short and long term?

* What has made you arrive at this point? Lack of success? Boredom? etc.

* What can you learn from your professional mistakes to benefit you in your new career?

* What skills do you possess and what are your strengths and weaknesses?

You must always think carefully about what makes you the person that you are. What defines your happiness? When are you most happy? Another important factor to think about is what you are good at doing. If you are good with words then you could could consider freelance writing or editorial work. If you love being around people and making a difference here there are many avenues that you can choose to go into, namely teaching, care work or helping charities with disadvantaged individuals. Get a professionally written CV and Cover Letter that reflects your abilities and you will have given yourself a great head start.

Create a list of your best attributes and skills, then list the careers that demand them and you'll be a step closer to a rewarding new career. You must be prepared that you might have to educate yourself further for your new chosen field. By being willing to undertake additional training or educational courses you'll increase your attractiveness and value as a potential job candidate. In addition to this you will be perceived as someone who is passionate about this career change and who is not afraid to take on new challenges to succeed. These are truly admirable qualities in an employee and will render you a lot more appealing. Do not be held back by present fears that you may have.

The most important thing to keep at the forefront of your mind is to think about what you really enjoy doing. List your passions and research how you could make a career out of them. If you are happy doing things that you love then you will inevitably get so much more out of your career and be fulfilled with it. Take small steps first and before you know it you will be doing something that you really care about.
