Need Be Assertive

By : RO

Have you felt when your job responsibilities continue to pile up no end, while you feel you've got all the ability to meet targets and deadlines? You even frequently worked overtime, even sacrificing a time-out noon. But strangely, the list of work to do still long seemed to have no end.

Complain began arriving. Both the user and other parties who need you. Management and your supervisor and then assess that this is certainly going to affect team performance and company productivity. Then a reprimand, warning or bad appraisals became "gift" for you.

Many things that cause your work management mess. Indeed the underlying is too little time and so much to do. If you look again, could be one reason is the inability to be assertive or say no. Often this is because the feeling shy, you are reluctant to reject any work that is delegated to you. Though employment is not necessarily your responsibility or you do not even have the skill to do it.

Before you even more overwhelmed with a growing work load piling up, and low credibility of your work is deemed by the management company, here are practical ways that can help you to communicate honestly, right or what you want while still maintaining good relationships with coworkers and supervisors .

1. Make sure that you are clear about the job that you're responsible for, and the work that had nothing to do with you. Analysis quickly each time there's a new job for you, and make decisions on the spot if you do not have responsibility for the job.

2. Backed up with fact. Every time you are overwhelmed with work that does not comply with your responsibilities, while others are waiting for the deadline, to say that you should prioritize your obligations first. Show jobs that are waiting for you and mention that you do not have any obligation toward any other job. If necessary, ask a question to the list on your desk and show your work to be completed soon.

3. Use spoken language and body language decent. Reveal fine but firmly that you mind doing jobs that are not your responsibility. Goalnya is to be assertive without putting down others. Provide a concise, clear and reasonable. Remember that explanation is too long and rambling instead will provide opportunities for them to argue. Do not give your body language that contradicts the rejection like laughing, leaning posture relaxed.

4. Do not hesitate to use the word 'no'. Do not feel guilty every time you use this word. If you can not do it, use the word 'no' to clear. Do not use other words that could be interpreted like 'I'm not agree', 'not yet', 'requires a lot of time' and so forth. Appropriate to the target will be more effective than using the words 'winged'.

5. Situational. Assertive does not mean you lose accuracy, and sensitivity in reading situations. If things are urgent and need your help as soon as there is no other resource that can, as long as you use common sense and consideration that you can still complete your responsibilities, then there is no harm in helping. Keep in mind that basically every employee is a member of a great team that brought the company's mission.

6. Maintain an attitude. If you are faced with colleagues who constantly forcing and arguing even though you have submitted your mind clear, then stop arguing with the conversation, or even silence. Remember that you are responsible with your work, not the work of others.
