The Importance of a Self-Assessment Before an Interview

By : Adrian F Alexa

We all know that interviews are not simple meeting, on the contrary, most of the candidates who decide enrolling in a recruiting process realize that this pursuit is much more complex. Therefore, since interviews are nothing but evaluation sessions, human resources specialists advise candidates to pursue a self-assessment in order to ease the official interview. Self-assessment stands for a popular method that allows individuals to explore their hidden abilities and skills. Usually, self-assessment facilitates a process that helps us reconsider our personality and profession-related competencies.

The benefits of self-assessment are tremendous simply because the candidate is somehow familiarized with the evaluation method as he has the opportunity to build up a sort of scenario. In addition to this scenario, he already knows the answer to specific questions that normally would cost him time and energy. Self-assessment is an important preparation stage due to the fact that enables the candidate to control better his emotions as he already experienced this kind of session.

It is worth pointing out that self-assessment comprises a revelatory side as many candidates have realized that the job they took into consideration does not meet their personal requirements. This kind of procedure helps us understand better our own set of values and guide us to new job opportunities.

Recruiters advise applicants to consider seriously any interview session and to prepare for the "unexpected". However, the importance of self-assessment strategy accomplished before an interview is widely recognized as it has enabled applicants to explore deeply and realistically their profession-based abilities.
