Pharmacy Technician math is a vital part of being a pharmacy technician and assisting pharmacists. You will be expected to have a solid understanding of common math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It covers items such as fractions, reducing and enlarging formulas, units and conversions and measurements. The author mixes humor in the writing to avoid a dry, boring read. A second book is titled "Math Calculations for Pharmacy Technicians" and is written by Robert Fulcher. It features a workbook style and is more interactive than a typical book. There are many self tests and practice problems. It covers basic math skills, conversions between measurement systems, reconstituting liquid medications and more.
If you are thinking of becoming a Certified Pharmacy Tech, a large part of the PTCE exam is related to math. Obtaining your certification is very valuable. Most employers prefer to hire Certified Pharmacy Techs and the pay for certified techs is generally more than that for other techs. Becoming certified will open more doors for you and increase your chance for higher pay.
